Eunan’s keep Donegal flag flying

ST EUNAN’S ensured today’s Divison 3 Féile Peile na nÓg final wouldn’t be an all-Cork affair by dumping Macroom out of the tournament in the first of yesterday’s semi-finals at Whitechurch.

Having emerged unbeaten from Group A, the Donegal side continued their winning streak with a convincing 3-15 to 1-3 victory, to set up today’s final against west Cork outfit Ahan Gaels, who enjoyed an equally comfortable passage to the final, beating St. Brigid’s of Roscommon 4-6 to 1-6.

St. Eunan’s added physicality was telling as Macroom struggled to gain possession. Having converted early pressure into points, Eunan’s struck two goals in four first half minutes, bringing to score to 2-5 to 0-0 with Macroom already wanting the final whistle.

Eunan’s place in the final had long been secured by the time Ruairi Carr slotted his second and his team’s third goal on 34 minutes.

John O’Sullivan was the star of yesterday’s second semi-final, tallying 4-1 for Ahan Gaels as they steamrolled St. Brigid’s.

The imposing full forward displayed a clinical touch in front of goal taking full advantage every time he found himself in behind the Brigids’s defence. Two quick points after the break reduced the margin to four points, hinting at a Brigid’s comeback only for O’Sullivan to claim his hat-trick and inspire his side to victory.

Ahan Gaels play St. Eunan’s in the Division 3 final today at 11.45am in Páirc Uí Rinn.
