GALWAY manager John McIntyre has called on his players “to retrieve their reputations” in the qualifiers after Saturday’s dispiriting Leinster SHC semi-final defeat by Dublin.

The Galway boss is expecting a backlash from the county’s supporters after their toothless performance which saw his side leaving Tullamore “with our tails between our legs.” And he admits the fans’ ire is justified.

“I appreciate more than anyone that the critics are going to have a field day back home. I heard some of the comments coming off the field about management and the players being a disgrace to Galway hurling – we have to live with that for the next fortnight.
