Busy time for brothers on special day for Quaid family
However Nicky’s younger brother Tommy was unable to cheer him on despite having featured for the county intermediate team in the curtain-raiser.
Tommy started the Munster IHC semi-final against Waterford at 1.45pm and registered 1-2 from play as Limerick triumphed by 2-12 to 2-9. After that match he left headed for Cork where he was involved with third-level outfit CIT in their county senior hurling championship tie against Imokilly in Páirc Uí Rinn at 6.30pm.
Tommy lined out between the posts and helped the side to a 3-15 to 2-12 win. Both Quaid brothers had been honoured for their third-level exploits earlier this year with Tommy picked in goal on the Rising Stars team of the season while Nicky, a student in IT Tralee, was selected at midfield.
Ironically Adare player Willie Griffin, who replaced Quaid as a late second-half substitute for the Limerick intermediates, also travelled to Cork to line out for UCC against Muskerry in the second game of that Cork SHC double-header. Griffin hit 0-7 but could not prevent UCC from being defeated by 2-13 to 0-17.
