Late goals earn silverware for CIT

TWO late goals ensured Cork IT claimed the Freshers Football League Division 1 title at UUJ’s expense in Newcastle, Co. Dublin yesterday.

Cian Fleming and Stephen O’Dwyer bagged the vital scores for Pat Spratt’s charges.

UUJ were dealt a major blow late on with the dismissal of Tyrone’s Shea McGuigan, brother of Senior star Brian, following a second yellow card. Indeed the Ulster outfit were dealt bad luck leading up to this game with a litiny of injuries.

CIT held a comfortable 1-8 to 0-5 interval lead, with O’Dwyer claiming a 10th minute goal.

Despite UUJ launching a determined second-half challenge, with Barry Reilly and Ross McGarry to the fore in cutting the deficit to the minimum with 10 minutes remaining, CIT’s late goal brace ensured silverware.
