O Flatharta’s experience in carving out victories was key, says board

THE chairman of Galway football board revealed new boss Tomás O Flatharta came close to getting the job a year ago before Joe Kernan was appointed.

O Flatharta, who was named manager on Thursday night for the next three years, was the only other candidate interviewed a year ago when Kernan was chosen.

“He was very, very close last year,” admitted Holleran. “We had some different people on the interview panel this year but they were all very impressed with him. As, indeed, they were impressed with all the candidates.”
