CROKE PARK officials are confident of recording an increase in the number of spectators attending the hurling and football championships by the time both competitions are decided next month.

Figures released by the GAA in late July, days after the completion of the six provincial competitions and qualifier fixtures, demonstrated a shortfall from the equivalent 2009 numbers of 2%.

Yet that looks certain to be all-but-wiped out in the weeks to come.
