We’re still in it, says Paudie

CORK substitute Paudie O’Sullivan was disappointed at the final whistle on Saturday but paid tribute to Waterford on their win.

We’re still in it, says Paudie

“We’re disappointed, but we’re not out of it and we congratulate Waterford.”

O’Sullivan contributed two points as a sub and said he and his teammates would now “regroup” for the next day out.

“It’s nice to come in, but at the end of the day we lost the game. That’s the way it goes, I suppose. We’ll have to regroup now and come back next week for another tough game. I’m not sure who we’ll be playing.

“All we can do now is go back on Tuesday and get ourselves ready for that.”

There’s never been much between Cork and Waterford and O’Sullivan said he suggested during the week the replay might go to extra-time. “I’d been joking with the family at home, that Cork had done everything except extra-time, and I suppose you could have put your money on it for this weekend. There it is again, only the puck of a ball in it, it could have gone either way.”

O’Sullivan said he hopes to start next weekend’s All-Ireland quarter-final but stressed that it “wasn’t for him to say”; he also paid tribute to the Cork supporters.

“Hopefully I will (start) but that’s not for me to say, the lads who started gave 100%and I don’t doubt that if they’re picked again they’ll give it everything again.

“Cork supporters are always behind us, we’ve been through a lot together and hopefully they won’t turn on us now – I’m sure they’ll be there next week again.”
