JACK O’Connor’s skills as a coach and motivator, which have won him national respect as one of the shrewdest inter-county managers around, are to be further utilised at schools level in Kerry.

Already well established in Coláiste na Sceilge (where he is assistant principal), he is to become Coaching Co-Coordinator for the Kerry VEC.

The appointment, designed to revitalise Gaelic football in the vocational schools, was confirmed by committee Secretary George Dennis.

“We are delighted to have the top football coach in the county and probably in the country on board and he will a huge positive for us,’’ he commented. “He will taking up his new role in September and it will involve Jack visiting the various vocational schools one day a week and taking the first and second years, mainly for a coaching sessions.”

The Kerry boss will be available to schools in Killorglin, Castleisland, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí (Tralee), Listowel and Killarney, along with Causeway CS, which fields teams in hurling as well as football.
