Walsh doubt for Rebel U21s
“It’s not looking good for Aidan,” admitted Cork boss John Cleary. “He picked up the injury in training two weeks ago and he hasn’t been able to shake it off. It’s very difficult to see him making the match on Saturday. He’s a big loss as he was important last year and is on the senior panel. But injuries are part and parcel of it and we must drive on.”
Cork’s only other injury problem is long-term casualty Denis O’Sullivan. The Ballinascarthy wing-back, who was a member of last year’s panel, tore his cruciate ligament last November which ruled him out for this season.
Ciarán Sheehan has shaken off a recent hamstring injury and is set to line out in attack alongside fellow survivors from last year Paul Honohan, Mark Collins and Barry O’Driscoll.
Opponents Kerry report no injury worries after undergoing their final workout at the weekend with a challenge match against Donegal. They have five members of last year’s team likely to be involved this time around in goalkeeper Tomás Mac an tSaoir, defenders Jonathan Lyne and Padraig O’Connor, midfielder Johnny Buckley and senior forward Barry John Walsh.
But Castlegregory All-Ireland winner JB Spillane, half-forward last year, has opted out of the panel due to college commitments.
