Bolt emerges unscathed from meeting with Kingdom

THE world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, emerged unscathed from a meeting with All-Ireland senior football champions Kerry in Jamaica last weekend, with unconfirmed reports suggesting the Olympic 100 and 200 metre champion was “relieved” that Tadhg Kennelly “wasn’t there to lay down a marker”.

Irish-owned mobile phone company, Digicel invited the Kerry footballers to spend the last day of their holiday to Jamaica with Bolt at the Mystic Mountain adventure park in Ocho Rios.

Digicel has sponsored Bolt since 2004 and following the afternoon spent with the big Jamaican, Kerry captain Darran O’Sullivan said: “This has been a fantastic end to our trip to Jamaica and I’d like to thank Digicel for organising this.

“Usain Bolt is a superstar athlete and, having the opportunity to spend the day with him and getting to know him, has been incredible. We even managed to get him into a Kerry jersey and teach him a few of the basics of Gaelic football.”

Former Irish international and tour leader Mick Galwey said: “The lads have had a great week in Jamaica and spending the day with Usain Bolt was definitely the highlight of the trip. It was a great opportunity for them to meet a world-class athlete before training begins for next season.

“Digicel really pulled out all the stops today to make sure that the team had a great day.”

The company’s Jamaica CEO, Mark Linehan, said: “We were delighted to see the Kerry football team in Jamaica this week to celebrate winning the All Ireland Football Championship.

“At Digicel, we are big supporters of the development of sport and of individual athletes and so it was a great opportunity for the All-Ireland champions to meet and spend time with the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt.”
