Parnell’s €30m upgrade gets go-ahead
The granting of planning permission by Dublin City Council has been hailed by Parnell’s officials as “the beginning of a new chapter in the club’s history.”
The new state-of-the-art development will include two all-weather pitches, a sand-based grass pitch, a sports hall, gym and sports therapy centre.
A new modern clubhouse will also be built, along with a function room facility, as part of the proposed development on 12 acres at Chanel College, which is being sold to the club by the Marist Fathers.
The Marists and Parnell’s have worked very closely on the project and included in the scheme is a small development of 17 houses and 53 apartments.
The development will also include a medical centre and pharmacy at the entrance to the club in Coolock village.
It is understood 200 people will be employed during the construction phase of the project, generating up to €5m in wages for the local community.
Upon completion, 10 full-time and 20 part-time staff will be employed by the club to look after the day-to-day running of the complex.
The Parnell’s club is anxious to build on recent successes on the field following on from the promotion of the senior footballers to Division One.
Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton is the club’s best known player and he said: “We cannot wait for this development to get under way.
“The club and the local community will reap the benefit of this decision for years to come.”
