CORK football legend Billy Morgan has been appointed a manager of UCC’s Sigerson Cup team for the coming season, as the college aims to end a 14-year spell without success in the premier third-level football competition.

Rebel County legend Morgan lands UCC role

Morgan, who won two Sigerson Cup titles with UCC as a player, will be embarking on his first managerial venture outside of his club Nemo Rangers since his tenure as Cork boss ended after the 2007 All-Ireland final.

Morgan’s management team will consist of John Corcoran, a former Cork football selector with Morgan; Frank Cogan, who won an All-Ireland medal 1973 for Cork alongside Morgan; and Paul O’Keeffe, who captained UCC to their last Sigerson Cup success in 1995.

Meanwhile Paul O’Connor, who steered UCC to Fitzgibbon Cup success last March, will remain at the managerial helm of the Fitzgibbon side for the coming season. He will be joined on the sideline again by Andy O’Callaghan but Tipperary All-Ireland senior winner Eddie Enright will not be involved in the setup in this campaign.

* FORMER Offaly senior boss Gerry Fahy has been re-appointed as manager of the Galway minor football team.
