Cork management taking steps to prevent swine flu
The Cork squad were briefed about the disease by team doctor Con Murphy before their All-Ireland semi-final clash with Tyrone.
“Dr Con advised the players on what steps they needed to take to avoid swine flu before the Tyrone match,” stated board PRO Ger Lane last night.
“All the players were issued with guidelines and they acted accordingly. We as a county board and the management team are very conscious of our responsibilities in this regard to prevent anyone having swine flu.
“We’d be well aware of the gravity of the situation. The players met fans in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Wednesday night but from now on it’s full steam ahead for the All-Ireland.”
Lane also revealed that the board will be accepting no more applications for All-Ireland final tickets. Officials in Páirc Uí Chaoimh have been inundated with requests in recent weeks which reflects the huge interest that has been generated in the clash between Cork and Kerry.
But due to the huge volume of the demand, the county board have opted to close the door on applications for tickets.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Celts GAA Club, will play host next February for the fourth year running to the worlds’ largest International Sevens Gaelic Football and Hurling Tournament.
The Gulf Gaelic Games 2010 will take place on the 26th and 27th February, with up to 1,000 players set to take part in the event.
“Last year’s tournament was a huge success, and we expect 2010 to be bigger and better again with over 60 teams participating” commented Darragh McGreevy, Chairman of Dubai Celts.
He believes that the games “not only offers a great opportunity for the Irish in the community to come together to showcase their unique games to the people of Dubai, but it also brings together people from all over the globe to experience Arabic culture.”
