THE GAA’s director general Páraic Duffy has given the clearest indication yet that no team will be relegated from the senior hurling championship and that Carlow will play in next year’sLeinster championship.

While no proposal can been adopted until the return of president, Christy Cooney, from America today, Duffy said it was very unlikely that the Glensmen and Wexford would have to play their relegation final.

The relegation issue has been a thorn in the GAA’s side in recent months. The DRA’s direction – that while the Westmeath motion relating to automatic promotion was flawed, a consideration should be given to Christy Ring Cup champions Carlow – has ultimately rendered the relegation process a futile exercise.
