Munster Council deputy Nelligan leaves post

MUNSTER’S GAA administrators have suffered a blow with the decision of provincial deputy chief Danny Nelligan to pursue an alternative career.

Munster Council deputy Nelligan leaves post

The former Croke Park ticket office chief moved back to his native province less than two years ago and quickly built a reputation as one of the most capable young administrators in the association.

The 31-year old Kerry man has been assistant to Munster chief executive Pat Fitzgerald during that time, but the son of goalkeeping legend Charlie Nelligan has handed in his notice to the Munster Council and decided to pursue a different career path. He is a qualified accountant.

Nelligan began work with the Croke Park ticket office in 2001 and was an important part of the computerisation of the GAA’s ticketing system until he left to work for the Munster Council in March 2008.

If interested, he would be regarded as a serious and credible contender for the Kerry GAA secretary’s position, which the county board announced last week will become a salaried position later this year. Milltown-Castlemaine’s Peter Twiss recently replaced Eamonn O’Sullivan as voluntary secretary in the Kingdom. The Munster Council has already advertised Nelligan’s post.
