NICKEY Brennan has condemned those responsible for issuing death threats towards former Cork hurling manager Gerald McCarthy.

The threats, one of which was apparently issued through McCarthy’s son, have been referred to the Gardaí and were referenced as one of the reasons behind the former All-Star’s decision to relinquish his post with the senior hurling set-up.

“That is absolutely appalling and something I abhor and condemn,” said Brennan. “I don’t believe it came from genuine GAA people. I think Gerald and his family were right, they handed it over to the Gardaí and I hope they finger whoever did this and make them pay very dearly for it.
