NICKEY BRENNAN has defended Croke Park’s handling of the Cork hurling crisis after almost a week of various claims, counter claims and meetings, all of which have failed to bring the issue any closer to a resolution.

The GAA’s national executive adopted a watching brief as regards the current dispute on Leeside until last week when Brennan’s soon-to-be-successor as president, Christy Cooney, and Director General Pauric Duffy took centre stage.

The two men met with Cork manager Gerald McCarthy, the Cork county board and the 2008 hurling panel last Thursday but Brennan rejected the suggestion that Croke Park should have done more and sooner.
