Two new faces for Kingdom as Reidy and O’Shea set for Donegal clash
Reidy takes over in goal from Diarmuid Murphy with O’Shea, a son of the legendary Jacko and scorer of Mid-Kerry’s matchwinning goal from the penalty spot in the county final replay, named at left half back.
Apart from Murphy, six other members of the team that lost to Tyrone in the All-Ireland final miss out: Tom O’Sullivan, Tomás Ó Sé, Dara Ó Sé, Eoin Brosnan, Brian Sheehan and Kevin Donaghy.
Back into the first team are Tommy Griffin, David Moran, Paul Galvin, Donnacha Walsh and Darren O’Sullivan. Griffin lines out at right half back. Moran is in at midfield while both Galvin and Walsh are on the wings, with O’Sullivan top of the left.
Meath name five newcomers for the visit to Páirc Uí Chaoimh for their opening league clash against Cork tomorrow. In goal is Paddy O’Rourke, nephew of Colm’s. Barry Regan is centre-back berth with another debutante Sean McKernan on his left. Brian Meade has his first senior outing in the middle of the field, with David Bray filling the right half forward position.
Champions Derry blood five new youngsters for their first defence of the title against Mayo at Ballina tomorrow. Making league debuts are corner backs Brian Óg McAlary and Ryan Dillon, left half back Christy McKaigue and corner forwards James Kielt and Seamus Bradley.
Mayo will have three new kids on the block. Ger Cafferkey is John O’Mahony’s new full-back, while Donal Vaughan earns his spurs in the left corner back position. The third debutante is last season’s outstanding U-21 player Mickey Sweeney, who comes into the side at top of the left.
Limerick manager Mickey ‘Ned’ O’Sullivan introduces three newcomers for their away game with Louth. Eoin Hogan, Na Piarsaigh, Jimmy Barry-Murphy from Ballylanders and Ballysteen’s Maurice Carrig are in. Hogan is named at left half back, Barry-Murphy on the right flank of attack with Carrig lining out at full-forward.
Laois have named a new goalkeeper in Michael Nolan for their local-derby tie with Kildare at Portlaoise tomorrow. A member of the Portlaoise club, Nolan is one of five newcomers to the Laois side. The others are right corner back Damien Murphy, full-back Paul Begley, left corner back Rory Stapleton and wing back Peter O’Leary,
Roscommon, who host Offaly at Dr Hyde Park tomorrow, introduce corner backs Paul Gleeson and Peter Domican to league football, while both Sean Purcell and Sean O’Neill return after lengthy lay-offs.
Monaghan manager, Seamus McEnaney has handed league debuts to Carrickmacross duo James Conlon and Mark Downey for the crunch game against Fermanagh in Enniskillen.
