KERRY’s determination to reclaim their All-Ireland title from Tyrone must not be at the expense of admiring what the Red Hands have achieved in recent years, according to outgoing Kerry selector, Dr Dave Geaney.

The Castleisland man received a Hall of Fame award from the Munster Council over the weekend, and despite being on the receiving end of Mickey Harte’s men last September in Croke Park, insisted: “It’s time for all this (negative) talk about Ulster football to stop. That goes for Tyrone in particular,” he said. “There is no county that has put a greater effort into developing talent and teams from minor through Under-21 and onto senior. No county is more deserving of success.”

An All-Ireland winner himself, he still points to his success coaching his native Castleisland Desmonds to All-Ireland club success in 1985 as a career highlight. Club colleague Eamon O’Sullivan was also honoured at the function in Killarney for over 40 years of front-line involvement as a ref and outstanding Kerry board officer.
