WHEN a cool head was needed, the task of earning the draw fell to corner forward John Hayes, who was entrusted with the last-minute penalty kick after Graham Canty was upended, and cool as a breeze, the Carbery Rangers man slotted home the perfect score.

Strange that Hayes was given the responsibility as he is not the penalty taker at club level.

Asked what was going through his mind as he lined up the penalty kick, John said: “I tried not to think too much about it. There was a bit of a delay which allowed me to get focused, and I knew where I wanted to place the kick, so from that point of view it wasn’t too difficult.”
