Loughnane ‘completely disillusioned’ after collapse
There was no dissembling. “Totally, completely disillusioned,” was how he described himself. “I’ve had disappointments before with teams but that was inexplicable. The quality of the hurling we played in training, and then to play like that, you’d be wondering if that is the team we’ve had training for the last six or seven months.”
Loughnane conceded that a change of system may be needed: “The road back for the players may be down to the hurling board, and what decision they make – do they want to go for matches early in the year or are they going to cling to a system of dropping a team in at the end of July and hope to pull off a big display.
