Fermanagh and Wexford light up championship

PRIDE of place last weekend goes to two counties whose days in the sun have been few and far between — Fermanagh and Wexford.

Fermanagh and Wexford light up championship

Fair dues to Fermanagh. They may well have the smallest GAA catchment area in the 32 counties. Mainly because of this they have never won an Ulster title, never mind an All-Ireland. But they are in a provincial final now having dispatched of National League champions Derry, in impressive fashion on Saturday evening. No disrespect to Down or Armagh but here’s hoping that the “west” county in Ulster lift the Anglo Celt Cup.

I will leave it to fellow columnist, Cormac MacConnell, a man well versed in all things from schmozzles to world champion bottle and wellington throwing to fill you in on the merits of his green shirted heroes. Cormac, a leamabh, I hope you are only a few weeks away from one of your life’s ambitions.
