O’Neill: club won’t be punished

LEINSTER Council chairman Liam O’Neill is adamant it will be the culprit in question, and not the Moorefield club, who suffers as a consequence of the punch thrown at referee Syl Doyle after Sunday’s provincial semi-final in Mullingar.

The Wexford match official was leaving the field after the game — in which he had awarded a controversial penalty to Tyrrellsspass six minutes from time — when an unidentified spectator attempted to strike him.

“Our policy is that where people are named and where clubs give us the culprits, we punish the culprits and not the club,” said O’Neill. “I have done that since I came into the Leinster Council.”
