Bunnanadden crash out

BUNNANADDEN, last year’s Sligo SFC runners-up, and St Mary’s, the club of Sligo manager Tommy Breheny, were the big casualties following the weekend’s second round fixtures.

With one round of the group games left to play, champions Curry are already assured a place in the quarter-finals as well as Eastern Harps, St John’s, Tourlestrane and Calry-St Joseph’s.

Bunnanadden, who lost their opening game to Calry-St Joseph’s, needed to beat Tourlestrane in Saturday’s Group D cruncher.

But Tourlestrane blitzed their south Sligo opponents — winning 2-17 to 2-3.

Curry rarely left second gear when dispensing with the Barnes Murphy-managed Ballymote, 1-11 to 0-11, at Kilcoyne Park.

The meeting of Sligo town rivals, St John’s and St Mary’s at Markievicz Park produced an absorbing contest with St John’s edging home 1-9 to 1-8.

Eastern Harps, dismissed Castleconnor 1-10 to 0-3, at Curry.

Easkey shook off Shamrock Gaels. A brace of goals in the third quarter from Brendan McGrath and Eugene Mullen set up their 3-11 to 0-10 win.

Elsewhere, veteran forward Paul Severs’ equalising point salvaged a draw for Tubbercurry against Coolera-Strandhill (0-9 each).

In Group C, Drumcliffe-Rosses Point overcame Kenneth Sweeney’s Geevagh by three points, 2-10 to 1-10, thanks to second-half goals from Alan O’Dowd and Brian McAteer.
