‘Flying’ Cork never gave us a look in, says Geraghty
“Obviously we are very disappointed, not so much as the defeat by the size of it, because we are not a bad team. We’ve come a long way after being in the doldrums for a couple of seasons, but it remains to be seen what effect this defeat will have.
“As forwards we didn’t get any quality ball in. It came far too high and Graham Canty was able to get a fist to it and break it away. That was a bit frustrating.
“I always felt we were in with a chance of winning it if we could get a goal, but credit to Cork they defended superbly and I hope they go on and win it now.’’
Geraghty added: “There was an element of good fortunate about their goal. Caoimhin King got a great block on Kevin McMahon’s kick but it took a wicket deflection. We’d gladly have taken it at the other end, but we never got the chance.
“It’s always disappointing to lose, but we’d have gladly settled to be in an All-Ireland semi-final at the beginning of the year. We’ve made steady progress; it’s a stepping stone; it’s Colm’s first year in charge and we’ve done very well to get where we did.
“Apart from a few, the team is relatively young, and we’ll bounce back. It’s disappointing to be beaten by so much because we are not that bad of a team. We’ll take it on the chin for now.”
