Kavanagh takes centre stage in battle to conquer the Kingdom

AS one of the new breed of talented young footballers, Derek Kavanagh can only rely on his memories to recall Cork successes against Kerry in the Munster championship at Fitzgerald Stadium.

One of the most recent — and his favourite — came in 1993, a game which the Rebels won. But that wasn’t the only cause of joy in the Kavanagh household. The scoreline was 1-10 to 0-10 and yes, you guessed it, big brother Joe got the game’s decisive goal.

On Sunday, the Nemo Rangers star captains the side from midfield and it’s where he’s happiest.
