KILKENNY boss Brian Cody launched a stinging attack last night on the method of assessing referees, suggesting that officials are being ‘screwed’ by those who monitor performances.

The direct result, he said in Portlaoise after seeing his team qualify for yet another Leinster SHC final, was that ‘honest’ defending was not being allowed.

While he could have criticised Waterford referee Michael Wadding for not taking action over a couple of ‘attempts’ at tackles on his players in Portlaoise yesterday, he stressed that he was speaking generally about refereeing.
