Four years ago, referee David McKeon issued two yellow cards to Sligo Rovers’ Gareth Gorman in the club’s shock 3-2 third round FAI Cup replay victory over Shelbourne — and the former Galway United and Finn Harps player remained on the pitch.
Shelbourne asked the FAI to look into the matter pointing out that the fourth official, Paul Tuite, drew the referee’s attention to the error.
The matter was discussed by the FAI Domestic Committee which was chaired by the then FAI president, Milo Corcoran. The result stood.
However, internationally, UEFA ordered a replay of a Champions League qualifiers between FC Tirol and Lokomotiv Moscow in 2001 when a Moscow player stayed on the pitch after getting two yellows.
