‘BABS’ KEATING has described the St Vincent’s campaign in Dublin to debar UCD teams from the county championships as ‘narrow-minded’ and, from an overall perspective, inadvisable in terms of raising the standard of hurling at inter-county level.

Speaking after yesterday’s Allianz NHL launch in Dublin — wearing his hat as UCD coach — he said he regarded it as a ‘parochial approach’ to a matter that has wider applications for the game of hurling.

“You have to ask yourself the question, if UCD didn’t win the football last year or we didn’t win the hurling the previous year... Are the Dublin clubs saying ‘UCD can play but they can’t win!’
