THE death has occurred of former Kerry footballer and selector Liam Higgins, writes Murt Murphy.

The Lispole native, won two All-Ireland SFC medals in 1969 and 1970 and served as a selector with the county in the ‘80s.

In recent years, the former teacher at Dingle CBS was a broadcaster with Radio Kerry, and commentated alongside Weeshie Fogarty on the All-Ireland SFC final.

GAA President Nickey Brennan said Higgins “was the embodiment of the Kerry footballer — tall, athletic, skilful and brave.”
