GAA President Nickey Brennan is still adamant the future of the International Rules Series is dependent on this series being played in a sporting manner.

He was responding to comments made by Jim Stynes, the Irish-born former AFL star who claimed the President was “looking for excuses to cancel the series, along with sections of the Irish media.”

Said Brennan: “I make no apologies for what has been said. What anybody else says has nothing to do with me. I am President of the GAA and I will call it as I see it. I am happy to see the series continue too, but I also have a responsibility to ensure that they are played in the appropriate manner.’’
