Clash a ‘freak incident’

UMPIRE PP Pettit, who was in the wars after Saturday’s televised end-line collision with Monaghan forward Tommy Freeman, has vowed to continue officiating.

Clash a ‘freak incident’

“It won’t make me think twice about umpiring again. I enjoy it and a freak incident like that wouldn’t put me off, that is for sure,” he said.

“There was a shot saved and I moved up to the end line to follow the ball and see if it had gone out for a 45,” said the Longford official. “Next thing I remember I was picking myself up off the ground. It happened so quickly that I hadn’t time to think. He took me clean off my feet, which left me a bit winded but nothing more.”
