Clare clubs want Croker opened

THREE Clare clubs have motions to Sunday’s Clare Convention in Ennis in support of Croke Park being opened up to rugby and soccer internationals.

Milltown propose the stadium should be made available ‘on selected occasions, not in conflict’ with the aims of the Association for a limited number of international games. And, they specify that any change of policy should relate to Croke Park only.

An Eire Og motion recommends the Association should ‘seriously consider’ opening Croke Park to international rugby and soccer, while Clooney take a different approach. They want the Central Council empowered to negotiate with the Government to classify Croke Park as the National Stadium and be able to lease it on a commercial basis ‘and in line with Gaelic Games requirements.’
