Six teams through to last eight
Trim, Skryne, Blackhall Gaels and Dunderry were already through and were joined by Simonstown Gaels and Walterstown.
Simonstown, managed by Colm O’Rourke, turned on the style to inflict a 2-12 to 0-7 hiding on a disappointing Dunderry side at Pairc Tailteann, Navan on Saturday evening.
Evan Kelly and Hank Traynor were lively for Simonstown, who are still in contention after three defeats and always looked likely to send a lifeless Dunderry tumbling to a third loss after John Lunney netted a penalty.
Centre back Traynor sent over two points in the second half and Kelly smashed in his side’s second goal eight minutes from the end.
Walterstown booked their place in the last eight with a 1-8 to 1-7 victory over relegation-threatened Kilmainhamwood at Kells on Saturday evening. But it took a late Senan Moylan goal to give them the spoils. Moylan had a penalty stopped by Ronan Finnegan but followed up to finish the loose ball to the net.
Former St Vincent’s, Dublin clubman Moylan scored 1-4 as his side overcame the handicap of being without injured county midfielder Charles McCarthy.
At Dunshaughlin on Sunday it looked as if McCarthy’s Meath centrefield partner, Nigel Crawford, was going to power Dunboyne through to the quarter-finals. Dunboyne led Trim by 0-9 to 0-2 at half time and increased the advantage by a further point early in the second half.
However, Dunboyne, who had Andy McEntee sent off after 24 minutes, faded and finished the game with 13 players on the pitch, Paul Watters being dismissed in injury time at the end.
A goal from Michael Lowther brought Trim into contention and Colm McHugh punched over a late winner. Dunboyne will hope holders Dunshaughlin or St Patrick’s .
Dunshaughlin are hot favourites to clinch their place against Cortown in Navan while St Patrick’s will be opposed by Summerhill at Dunsany.
