McGrath Munster Hurler of Year

ALLSTAR Ken McGrath was yesterday named the AIB Munster Hurler of the Year.

The award, like his Allstar, is somewhat bittersweet for McGrath, as both Waterford and Mount Sion failed in their quest for All-Ireland honours. McGrath was inspirational in the Munster club final when his side were pipped by Toomevara.

Other winners from the provincial hurling championships include Athenry’s Joe Rabbitte; James Stephen’s Eoin Larkin and Rossa’s Jim Connolly.

In football, Laois star Colm Parkinson took the Leinster award for his role in leading Portlaoise to their sixth Leinster title, and their first in 17 years. Ballina’s Enda Devenney was the Connacht winner, with Crossmaglen’s Johnny Murtagh taking the honours in Ulster.

John Daly took the Munster award, after his role in securing Kilmurry’s first-ever Munster title.

The players will be presented with their awards at a function in AIB, IFSC on March 7.
