JUSTIN MCCARTHY had to be disappointed about his team’s defeat in Thurles yesterday. But, by no means was he downbeat after a game which in his own words, was more or less decided by the puck of a ball!

“It was a great display. We didn’t fall down. Fellows gave great displays out there,” said the Waterford manager. “I can’t crib too much, it was just the break of a ball here and there which made the difference.”

McCarthy readily acknowledged the contribution of former captain Ken McGrath and the team’s leading scorer, Paul Flynn, who had both been doubtful. But, while praising them for their important roles, he agreed that current captain Eoin Kelly had given his team inspirational leadership.
