O'Dwyer 'insulted' by Rules job snub

GAA PRESIDENT Sean Kelly yesterday defended the appointment of Pete McGrath as Ireland's International Rules manager, and insisted Mick O'Dwyer had not been snubbed in the selection process.

O'Dwyer 'insulted' by Rules job snub

O'Dwyer was offered the role of assistant to McGrath with a view to taking control in two years time but declined. It was felt that, with his commitment to Laois, O'Dwyer would be unable to take complete control of the team.

"Mick O'Dwyer was approached to act as selector and assistant manager, with the opportunity to take over as manager in two years time if he wasn't involved in inter-county management," said Kelly "He thought about it, he was toing and froing in the beginning, but he declined gracefully and I understand that."
