Ben backs Allen to lead Cork’s All-Ireland hat-trick bid

JOHN ALLEN should lead Cork’s bid for a third consecutive All-Ireland hurling title next year, according to former captain Ben O’Connor.

However, Allen has yet to make a decision. He is unhappy that the manager isn’t permitted to name all of his selectors. And, while stressing that the management had been lucky in recent years with the calibre of their captains, Allen would prefer if they had the right to nominate him.

A guest at the yesterday’s club championship launch, Allen (a four times All-Ireland winner, himself, in both codes), Allen said that he had been in discussion with his backroom team.
