Millea to miss Cats’ Galway tie

KILKENNY will be without key player Sinead Millea for Sunday’s National League crunch tie against Galway having broken her finger in their drawn encounter with Tipperary two weeks ago.

The game, which will serve as a curtain-raiser to the Division One NHL clash between Kilkenny and Offaly at Nowlan Park, is crucial for the Black and Amber who have only dropped one point to date. A win would place them in a strong position ahead of their last home fixture against table-toppers Cork on April 25.

Elsewhere, tomorrow evening Limerick travel to Ballyhea where they hope to salvage their second set of points from a disappointing run for the Shannonsiders. Even though they will be up against an experimental Rebel side, they still have to be in top form to upstage the home team. Recently-selected Colleges Allstar Sinead McAuliffe will be to the forefront for the visitors, while Vera Sheehan has settled back to her midfield role after her winter absence.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, Athleague will house another GAA/camogie double-header on Sunday with the ladies clash involving Roscommon and Down preceding Roscommon and Meath. If the northerners reproduce the exceptional form of last weekend, it will be difficult to see the home side advance, especially with sharpshooter Mairin McAleenan in such splendid form.

Armagh meet Cork’s second string in Douglas at noon. Having dropped two points to Offaly the red and white bounced back with a fine win over Tipperary. Kilkenny and Galway’s B teams also have a midday start at the James Stephens’ grounds. Kildare will meet neighbours Carlow at Myshall.

Clare entertain Antrim at Newmarket-on-Fergus while Tipperary face a stern test from Division Two leaders Offaly at The Ragg. The Munster minor championship semi-final between Tipperary and Limerick will kick-start events there at 1.30pm.
