IN other first round games, Coláiste Chríost Rí had a three point win (2-12 to 2-9) over De La Salle in a marvellous game at Ardmore.
The Waterford side made good use of the strong wind in the first-half to lead 1-7 to 1-2 at the break, with the Cork goal coming just before the interval by Eric Hegarty which proved to be the crucial score.
With the strong wind to their backs, Chríost Rí took control in the second-half and forged ahead with some splendid long range points by David Coughlan and Padraig Martin.
Maintaining the pressure, Eric Hegarty struck for his second goal 10 minutes from time to put the Cork side in the driving seat. While DLS pushed forward relentlessly in the closing minutes a resolute Críost Rí defence in which Kevin Murphy, Colin O'Brien and Fiachra Lynch were outstanding, held firm.
In a one-sided affair in Nenagh, St. Flannan's scored a facile 4-18 to 0-6 victory over Nenagh CBS. They will now meet Chríost Rí in the semi-final.
The St. Colman's/Midleton CBS tie wasn't played due to an appeal being lodged by a player from one of the schools concerning a suspension.
