Barr’s coaching job for Barry-Murphy

FORMER Cork senior hurling coach Jimmy Barry-Murphy is back in team management after a four year absence.

Barr’s coaching job for Barry-Murphy

At the St Finbarr’s AGM, he was appointed coach to the club’s senior hurling team for 2004 and will be joined by another former stalwart Charlie McCarthy.

They selection committee will be completed by Brian Hurley, Niall Goulding and Frank Deasy and they face a difficult task in restoring the club’s hurling fortunes which have slipped alarmingly.

Barry-Murphy steered St Finbarr’s to four minor and three county titles in the 1990s, but the club has failed to win the senior title.

Their last success at that level was in 1993.

Talent is scarce at the club, but Barry-Murphy’s appointment should raise the spirits and drive on the players and officials to bridge that 11-year gap.

Meanwhile, a Cork GAA Youth Forum will take place in Jury's Hotel, Cork on Friday, 7p.m.

The participants will be students from all the post-primary schools and the guest speakers will include former GAA president Peter Quinn, and Tomas Mulcahy who captained Cork to All Ireland Hurling success in 1990.
