Canavan calls it a day
Captain of the team which won the first title two years ago but plagued with injury in the interim, Canavan announced on television last night that he is calling it a day. Now 34, he made his debut in 1990.
He said on RTÉ's Sunday Game programme that there were two main reasons why this year’s win was special.
First of all Tyrone were able to answer their critics who inferred that they had not been worthy champions in 2003. Secondly it was especially satisfying to win it for the late Cormac McAnallen, without whom he said they would not have won the title two years ago.
In a glittering career he established a reputation as one of the game's greatest players.
