The champions began the defence of their Munster title with a facile win over Tipperary on Sunday, but O’Connor is already thinking ahead.

“I just think the demands are so great at the top now that if you stay in it too long, you get burnt out. I took it for two years and I cannot see myself staying on beyond that,” he told the Evening Echo.

O’Connor and his selectors, Ger O’Keeffe and Johnny Culloty, were appointed for a two year term, and after All-Ireland success in their first season, bid to become the first county in 15 years to win back-to-back championships.

“Basically, I took the job for two years and I certainly am not looking beyond this year. I would not have ambitions to stay long term because I am not the kind of fellow who goes into the job for a ride, I go into it to win things and give it my best shot,” O’Connor said.
