COUNTY Boards are facing sky-high bills as more and more inter-county teams opt to fly to away games.

Kerry team takes to the skies at a cost of €15,000

Kerry are the latest county to take to the skies for their key Allianz League Division 1A game on Sunday in Tyrone - at a cost of around €15,000.

They will leave Farranfore Airport at 9.30am Sunday for Derry and will be back in Kerry for 7.30pm on Sunday night. The cost of travelling to Omagh by rail and bus would be around €8,000, it is estimated.

However, several other counties have shown the lead, with Fermanagh having already flown to Farranfore for their clash with Kerry in Killarney. And the Ernesiders will fly to Cork this weekend for their clash on Sunday at Pairc Uí Rinn.

Kerry travelled to Monaghan by rail and bus for their recent League tie, and were two full days en route.

"You have to be fair to players - they are giving enough, and it is unfair to take two full days out of their week to travel to a game," said one County Board official.

Cork's footballers are now also likely to fly to Tyrone next weekend for their re-arranged Division 1A tie with the All-Ireland champions.
