Ballinacourty send De La Salle packing
A few weeks back the winners’ sister club, Abbeyside, also defeated the same opposition in the minor hurling final, thus completing the Under 18 championship double for the third time.
De La Salle looked like causing an upset for much of the opening half, and an Ian Cantwell goal on nine minutes gave them a lead they fully deserved.
Mark Fives goaled at the other end three minutes later, but De La Salle’s Kevin Moran scored their second major eight minutes before the break and they fully deserved their slender 2-2 to 1-3 half time lead.
Ballinacourty, however, sealed their victory on the turnover with virtual monopoly possession.
The scores were slow in coming but once super sub Jason O’Brien equalised and then followed up with his side’s second goal there was never going to be any way back for De La Salle.
They were restricted to just one point in the entire second half, which ensured no room for argument about the end result.
