Breen's last gasp goal a winner for Na Piarsaigh
With Doon ahead by one point, the city side were awarded a 65 and when Paul McNamara’s effort dropped short, Breen, who had moved up from centre back in an effort to rescue the situation, flashed to the net.
There was no time left for Doon to answer back.
An Eddie Kelly goal in 15 minutes put Na Piarsaigh ahead 1-5 to 0-3 and they stayed in front 1-8 to 1-4 at the break. Doon seized the initiative after Michael Fitzgerald put them in the driving seat with a 44th minute goal, only to falter at the finish.
Padraig Kennedy, who had been assaulted by a group of youths with his own hurley in a Caherdavin housing estate shortly after he had starred in Na Piarsaigh’s semi final win over Kilmallock last weekend, attended yesterday’s final.
His parents had kept vigil by his bedside at the Mid West Regional Hospital for several days.
