Lynch proves the ace for Broadford
The most impressive winners at the weekend were Drom/Broadford who once again showed there is life after Michael Reidy.
The county star is currently in America and has missed out on his club’s last few outings but Ray Lynch has taken over as chief marksman.
Lynch was very much to the fore as his side strode to an impressive 3-12 to 1-5 win over Newcastlewest.
The sides were balanced for quarter of an hour but then Lynch struck a goal after being put through by John Brouder and at 1-6 to 0-2 at the interval, the holders were on their way.
Barely 30 seconds into the second half and then Noonan carved an opening for Lynch to tag on goal number two and after that, there was really only one team in it, with Stephen Kelly having a consolation goal for the west near the finish.
Ballylanders meanwhile saw off the challenge of city club, Claughaun, who paid a heavy price for the absence of eight regulars and are now left to fight off the relegation issue in this their third defeat.
Ballylanders who were level at 1-3 to 0-6 at the break, fell behind when Paul Harmon and Donal O’Sullivan had early second half points for the green and whites but after that it was Ballylanders who put up all the scores on the board with Stephen Foxe, Michael Mansell, John Murphy and Con McSweeney firing over points and a late goal from McSweeney settled it.
Hospital/Herberstown kept their hopes alive with a one point win over Gerald Griffins, which saw the West Limerick side surrender their interest.
Hospital/Herberstown were razor sharp early on sending over points but Griffins soon came into it and goals from Barry Herbert and Val Mullane had them in front at the interval.
It was a different story at the change of ends with Colm Hickey, Bob Fenton and Ken O’Donovan regularly on target for the south Limerick men, who had their goal from Fenton.
Fr. Casey’s defeated Oolagh, 1-13 to 0-11, and Monaleen were victorious, getting the better of St. Kieran’s.
