Kilmacud look to have edge on St Brigid’s in televised final

THE county championship schedule winds a little closer to conclusion this weekend with a handful of finals and replays to be decided before the provincial campaigns can begin in earnest.

Kilmacud look to have edge on St Brigid’s in televised final

The pick of the fare is the Dublin SFC decider between Kilmacud Crokes and St Brigid's at Parnell Park, 3.30pm which will be televised live on TG4.

The Stillorgan outfit have beaten Naomh Olaf, Ballymun Kickhams, Erin's Isle and Ballinteer St John's en route to the decider and with the likes of Jonny Magee, Darren Magee, Paul Griffin, Liam O hEineachain and Ray Cosgrove in their ranks, are favourites to take their first title since 1998.

St Brigid's hopes of winning the senior double were dashed last weekend when they succumbed to Craobh Chiarain in the hurling decider. They will hope that Martin Cahill and the Gallagher cousins, Rory and Raymie, can help change their fortunes.

Tyrone and Errigal Ciaran defender Cormac McGinley is doubtful for tomorrow's Tyrone SFC final against Killyclogher.

McGinley suffered concussion for the second time in a month following an incident with an Ardboe defender which resulted in the dismissal of full-back John McConville last weekend.

His younger brother Enda is out of contention also, due to a serious neck injury he sustained in the recent All-Ireland final defeat of Armagh, while Peter Canavan is extremely doubtful as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

Their opponents too have their worries and will be without the services of long-term injury victim Rory Meenan and suspended Sean Bradley, who was sent off in last week's semi-final victory over Dromore.

In Armagh, reigning senior football champions, Crossmaglen Rangers chasing their eighth county title in a row, convincingly advanced to the semi-finals defeating a disappointing Killeavy side on a score line of 2-13 to 0-8 last weekend.

Tomorrow, the former All-Ireland club champions play Armagh Harps while Dromintee play Pearse Og in the other semi-final.

On the replay front, O'Hanrahans and Old Leighlin clash tomorrow in the Carlow SFC decider at Dr Cullen Park while in Clare, the western rivals St Senans Kilkee meet Kilrush Shamrocks at Cusack Park to decide the Banner football championship.

In hurling, Wexford champions Rathnure must defeat Glynn Barntown if they are to retain the SHC title for the first time since the Buffers Alley side of 1991/1992.

Wingback Joe Mooney who is in his 13th senior championship campaign with the 17-time champions is hoping for more glory. "Medals count for a lot in Rathnure," he said. "We are always keen to win another, and basically no amount of titles will ever satisfy that hunger."

Meanwhile Naomh Aban (Cork) face Cappawhite (Tipperary) in the Munster Ladies Intermediate Club Championship Final in Mallow this afternoon, (1pm).

Tomorrow, Cork champions Donoughmore meet Ballymacarbry of Waterford in the Munster Ladies Senior Club Championship decider in Ardfinnan, (5pm).
