Backdoor provides perfect scenario

IF Pat Spillane was offering analysis on last weekend’s Ladies’ Championship quarter-finals, he would surely say the real winner was football.

And he'd be right. Four excellent games, four definite results, no runaway successes. It couldn't have worked out better.

The highest expectations were met by everyone involved. There was an edge to the football that was absent in many of the provincial games, because this time around there was no safety net, no back door. It was do-or-die last Saturday and that was reflected in the quality of the games.
