Co-operation of clubs sought as Cork regroup
The selectors are finding it difficult to find suitable dates to train and play challenge games with the club championships now in full swing.
The selectors have already been promised full co-operation by a number of clubs with inter-county players but, because a number of players come from junior clubs, the co-operation of divisional boards also has to be sought.
Meanwhile, a source indicate that Wednesday night’s meeting of the entire football panel and team management went very well with a lot of straight talking done by both players and selectors.
“It was a very positive, constructive meeting with Sunday’s game being analysed to the full as to where it all went wrong for us”, said the source.
“Everyone left the meeting in a very positive frame of mind and are totally committed to giving the All-Ireland championship our best shot.
“Training will resume next week and we’ll work in and around the club championship games. I understand we have been promised accommodation by a number of clubs”.
Following the defeat by Limerick, there has been a clamour for the return of a number of former players like Ciaran O’Sullivan, Joe Kavanagh and Ronan McCarthy.
However, sources say the policy of reviewing the panel after every match will continue.
“The selectors have not sat down to look at the panel as yet, but you can take it that the selectors will do what they feel is best for Cork football.”
